Cape Coral

With over 400 miles of navigable waterways, Cape Coral is believed to have more miles of canals than any other city on earth – including Venice, Italy. So it’s no surprise that most of Cape Coral’s recreation focuses on the water. The largest city in Southwest Florida, this town offers many things to do for visitors. For instance, Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve is an unspoiled Florida ecosystem with a boardwalk that meanders through a peaceful mangrove habitat, a comfortable stroll for the whole family. Keep your eyes peeled for their most famous resident, the burrowing owl, who can be spotted even during the day. Cape Coral’s annual Independence Day fireworks festival – known as Red, White & BOOM! – is the most extravagant in all of Southwest Florida. If you’re planning a winter getaway, be sure to check out the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts, held the second weekend in January. Over 100,000 people attend. Every October a local German-American Club holds an annual Oktoberfest. “Kids” of any age will enjoy a visit to the Sun Splash Family Waterpark and the Shell Factory & Nature Center. Cape Coral makes for a terrific winter vacation, seasonal visit to escape the cold north, or annual stay, and also keeps you close to some of Southwest Florida’s most popular destinations, including Fort Myers’ well-known downtown area, the River District, Pine Island and Boca Grande.
