Immokalee, Florida Travel Guide
Immokalee
|
| The Seminole Indian word for “my home,” Immokalee is a nature lover’s paradise. It’s the center of a rural, agricultural community that produces a significant portion of the nation’s fresh produce. In fact, the next time you pick up a tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, potato or citrus fruit, there’s a good chance it originated right here in Immokalee.
Not surprisingly, local roadside produce stands and markets are fabulous places to pick your own blueberries and buy fresh-baked blueberry goodies. The university extension service in Immokalee offers public agricultural tours every March, and hosts the Southwest Florida Yard and Garden show the last weekend of October. On Lake Trafford, a 1,500-acre freshwater lake in the Everglades ecosystem, you can fish for crappie, bluegill and bass. For a faster-paced adventure, board the airboat at the Lake Trafford marina and see birds, alligators and other Southwest Florida wildlife. When you come to Immokalee, make a stop at the Seminole Casino, site of a recent $22 million expansion. It’s a mecca for sizzling nightlife, of course, but it’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So any time of day you can enjoy high-paying progressive gaming, Vegas-style slots, blackjack, live poker, not to mention fantastic food and drinks at the Zig Zag Bar. Whether you gamble or not, it’s a sure bet you’ll have a great time in Immokalee. Start your search for a long term Immokalee rental today. |
